News

DANA has recently been consulting with advocacy organisations to collect their perspectives and input to inform our recommendations to the Disability Royal Commission. Over the years we’ve collected a great deal of material about how crucial and powerful independent disability advocacy is and can be in the lives of people with disability, and the importance of our country developing a strong, well-supported and represented disability advocacy sector to meet the needs of Australians with disability.

We wanted to make sure you know that, this month, the Australian Government is encouraging people with disability, their families and carers, disability advocates and other interested stakeholders to share their views on what is important to improve and include in the new National Disability Advocacy Framework 2022-25 (the Framework).

To have your say, you can:

  • write a submission using the submission guide (available in Auslan, Easy Read and some community languages)
  • participate in an online community forum or webinar
  • attend a face-to-face community forum being held around Australia.

The consultations are designed to be open, inclusive and accessible for all members of the community. There will also be other opportunities to be involved in consultation for the Framework, including online workshops with disability advisory groups and disability representative and focus groups with people with disability.

Visit DSS Engage to take part and to find accessible resources to help. The consultation is open until Friday 8 July 2022.
